Italia have issued a public apology to supporters of their Serie A rivals Inter Milan following a video showing supporters being taken away from the stadium in protest against them.
Lecce are currently in a battle for the title with Napoli, with Napolitano now leading Inter by 10 points after the 2-1 win over Genoa on Saturday.
The fans were seen leaving the stadium, chanting and demanding the Italian side be stopped from continuing with the Serie A campaign.
“It was a very serious video and it was clearly not a joke,” said the team’s official Twitter account.
“The incident was completely unacceptable, unacceptable and unacceptable.”
Inter were fined €250,000 by FIFA for the incident.
The Lecchettes are yet to respond to the public apology issued by the Italian football federation.
L’Espresso Sport newspaper said the Lecchettes supporters are angry that they have been sent to prison for the same crime as Inter fans, who were also sent to the police station.
It quoted one fan as saying: “Lecchita are like those people who will take their kids to the cinema to watch the film and get drunk, even if it is against the law.”
