CAROLINA (AP) A powerful gun rights group is defending its support for a bill in North Carolina that would ease restrictions on carrying guns in public.
The National Rifle Association of America on Wednesday praised Senate Bill 4, which passed the North Carolina House earlier this month.
It says it supports the bill because it is needed to protect the Second Amendment right to bear arms.
“It is time for the legislature to take action to protect our citizens from the threat of criminals, terrorists and other dangerous criminals,” the NRA said in a statement.
The bill would allow people 21 and older to carry handguns openly in public, but those with concealed-carry permits would be required to take a test to prove they are not a threat.
