The first Muslim-Christian forum on drugs has been launched on a Christian website.
It will have more than 150 members from across India and beyond.
A forum on drug-related issues will help the community heal.
“The purpose of the forum is to discuss and share experiences, issues, and opinions related to drug use, addiction, and drug treatment, to address the problems that arise in this society,” said Abhishek Mukherjee, a spokesman for the online forum, called ‘Medics for Peace’.
“Drugs, especially cannabis, are an addiction and addiction to drugs is a leading cause of death,” he said.
The forum is part of a campaign by the World Health Organisation to help Muslims, Hindus and Christians find common ground in combating drugs and crime.
“Drug-related violence is one of the most serious challenges in the world today,” Dr Mukherji said.
According to the latest statistics, more than 10,000 people have died from drug-based violence since 1980.
